Urban air pollution in Accra is a major and growing public health issue, yet it receives little media attention and even less public awareness. The initiative aimed to change this by elevating air quality as a priority health concern on Ghana’s national agenda and rallying public support for policy measures.
What We Did
Mech Consult created and executed a campaign comprising public activations, media briefings, stakeholder engagement, and event management. We aimed to frame air quality as a human health issue rather than just a technical or environmental topic, ensuring it was accessible and compelling for mainstream media and the public, especially policymakers.
The Outcome
Successful public activations and media coverage elevated air quality as a vital public health issue on Ghana’s national agenda. The EPA has enacted national air quality policies to control pollution. The campaign also attracted media attention and stakeholder involvement, supporting the Clean Air Fund’s advocacy and policy goals in Ghana.
