European Union Day
Europe Day is the EU’s single most significant annual public engagement event in Ghana. The 2024 edition carried a specific thematic mandate: to strengthen the EU-Ghana partnership with a clear focus on youth and skills development.
The brief demanded two things in parallel. First, a seamlessly executed outdoor event at the EU Ambassador’s Residence — one capable of hosting heads of mission, government ministers, traditional leaders, media, and hundreds of guests simultaneously. Second, a communication campaign that would extend the event’s reach far beyond the evening itself into national media and public consciousness.
Both demands were interdependent. A poorly managed event undermines media coverage. Weak communication limits the return on a well-run one. The assignment required a single partner capable of holding both without compromise.

What We Did
Mech Consult co-organised the event end-to-end alongside Ecorys, managing logistics and communications as integrated workstreams from concept development through to post-event reporting.
On logistics, we developed the event concept note, identified and managed all suppliers, and coordinated venue setup and branding. Suppliers engaged included staging and LED production, pergola and furniture providers, catering for local and European food, branded materials, and entertainment — including artists Wiyaala and Kokui, a live band, and a DJ. We managed the full event day: VIP and media accreditation, guest registration, chaperoning of government officials, and controlled teardown.
On communications, we circulated press releases to national media ahead of the event and managed media accreditation and on-the-day coverage. We developed social media content and produced visibility materials, including branded backdrops, an LED wall, media lanyards, and foldable hand fans. Post-event, we conducted media monitoring and story clipping across print and broadcast.

The Outcome
Every KPI set by the EU Delegation was met or exceeded.
The event drew 700 guests — 40 per cent above the target of 500. Attendees included 10 EU member state ambassadors, five senior government officials, two traditional leaders, and eight national media representatives, alongside the broader audience of participants.
Sixteen press articles were published across tier-one national outlets, including Joy News, Daily Graphic, Business and Financial Times, the Ghanaian Times, and GNA. Three television spots and two radio stories aired, surpassing the broadcast target. Total media reach was estimated at 15.8 million people, exceeding the 15 million threshold.
The event was delivered on brief, on time, and with a documented surplus on catering provision. A three-minute video summary and 200 photographs were submitted to the EU Delegation as required.
