PQ Market Conference

DTI’s Precision Quality framework was more than a training standard. It was a proposition for how Ghana’s artisan and craft economy could generate better jobs, better products, and better livelihoods. But a standard that exists only within an institution has limited reach. For PQ to take hold, it needed to become a movement visible to policymakers, endorsed by trade associations, and reported by national media as a credible development story.

The PQ Conference was designed to create that moment: a single convening that brought together artisans and master craftspersons from Accra, Kumasi, and Ho alongside state institutions, including the National Development Planning Commission, the Ghana Standards Authority, and CTVET. The conference needed media coverage that would extend its message far beyond the room.

What We Did

Mech Consult provided end-to-end media relations and publicity support from pre-conference mobilisation through to post-event monitoring and reporting.

Pre-conference, we engaged media houses in Accra and Kumasi for publicity, coordinated and monitored media across both cities, and engaged the Information Services Department for social mobilisation. We developed the social mobilisation script, coordinated ISD’s activities in the run-up to the event, and secured the participation of the President of the Greater Accra Market Association. We managed media participation and coverage.

We managed all media participation and coordinated interviews with key speakers and stakeholders. Post-conference, we circulated the story widely to the media, followed up to secure publication, and conducted systematic monitoring, clipping, and reporting of all coverage received.

The Outcome

The conference generated 50 media stories: 19 solicited and 31 that came to the story on editorial merit alone. The PQ narrative generated a total of 62 per cent unsolicited reports. 

Coverage spanned tier-one broadcast, print and leading online news portals.

Estimated audience reach was 7,564,570, and earned media of GHC 56,448.
